Functional Behavioral Assessments
A Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) helps schools understand why a student is showing certain behaviors that make learning harder. The IEP team looks at when and where the behavior happens and what might be causing it. By gathering information from teachers, parents, and observations, the IEP team can figure out what the student needs and how to help. The results of the FBA are then used to create a Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) which provides strategies and supports to encourage positive behavior and improve learning.
