Manifestation Determination Reviews
This is a process schools use to determine whether a student's misbehavior is directly related to their disability. This review is required by IDEA whenever a student with an IEP faces disciplinary action that could result in a change of placement such as suspension of expulsion for more than 10 days. Two questions are asked at a manifestation determination review (MDR) . Was the behavior caused by, or directly related to the student's disability? Did the school fail to implement the students IEP correctly? If we answer to either question is yes the students placement can not be changes.
