WHY DO WE DO SPECIAL EDUCATION LAW?
TSR3 Justice Center believes that there is a connection between the education system and the criminal justice system. Others have called this the School to Prison Pipeline. The statistics support our conclusion; 68% of individuals who become involved in the criminal justice system have not graduated from high school; and 40% of students who get expelled don't graduate from high school. For students of color the percentage is 27% for African American boys, 19% for African American girls and 12% for Hispanic boys and girls.
We at the Justice Center believe we will never achieve meaningful criminal justice reform until we address the School To Prison Pipeline. TSR3 Justice has joined the fight as Special Education Attorney Advocates working towards enforcement of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Every child deserves a chance to succeed in school. Special Education Law helps ensure students with disabilities get the support they need. Early diagnosis and proper intervention can prevent the school to prison pipeline.
